Meet our newest members of the 4-H House!
Hey! I’m Krista Temple, a freshman majoring in Agricultural Communications. I grew up on a family farm near Fulton, IL. I was involved in 4-H for 10 years and many other extra curricular activities in high school. Coming to the University of Illinois and living at 4-H House were the dreams of my 4-year-old self coming true. I have eight relatives that have lived at the house and now it’s finally my turn!
I had a fantastic first semester at the University of Illinois and here at 4-H House! I had opportunities to research many topics that were interesting and relevant to me. One of these research projects was working with a professor on GMO news articles in Ghana, which was very interesting.
I also started a blog at kdtemple.wordpress.com, which has been a great experience!
I love living at 4-H House and the wonderful friends it has provided me with. Having upperclassman [ … ]
Hello my name is Nicole Chance and I am a freshman majoring in agricultural communications at the University of Illinois. I grew up on a two-thousand acre grain farm and farrow-to-finish hog operation in Lebanon, Indiana. As an out of state student, coming to U of I was a completely different change. I knew absolutely no one coming here and for me it was an intimidating but exciting feeling. Living at 4-H house has given me a family that I never would have dreamed of. I am so proud to be apart of a sisterhood of girls that are always there for each other and support one another on a day-to-day basis.
Along with living in the house, I also had the opportunity to intern at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) held in Louisville, Kentucky, this past fall. I worked with a team of four girls and we wrote [ … ]
My name is Renee Tillman and I am a freshman studying speech and hearing science. I grew up in Altamont, IL. Something unique about my 4-H House experience is that I have the pleasure of living in the house with my older sister, Rachel. But even more unique is the fact that I am not in the College of ACES, I am in AHS, or applied health sciences.
Last semester I had two classes with girls from the house who are also in the College of AHS. It was really nice to sit in a lecture of 600 students and know at least one friendly face. This semester I am blessed to be in a class with five other 4-H girls. Since I am the only 4-H House girl In many of my classes, I have the opportunity to share what the house is like and meet a lot of new [ … ]
Hi! My name is Emily Bloemer, and I am a freshman majoring in Agri-Accounting. I am from the lovely town of Heyworth, Illinois. In my free time, I love to spend time with my family, friends, and the outdoors. From the moment I interviewed to be part of 4-H House, I fell in love with the environment that this cooperative lifestyle encourages. I had girls that were willing to show me the tips and tricks of surviving freshman year, and the house truly became and still is a home away from home. While not participating in 4-H House events, I am actively involved with ACES Council as a freshmen ambassador, ACE Club, and Accounting Club. I was also elected as this year’s 4-H House Treasurer. One of the proudest moments so far in my college experience was becoming a JBT scholar. [ … ]

After graduation I plan to attend graduate school at the University of Illinois and receive a Master’s in Agricultural Economics. So far my experience at the University of Illinois has been wonderful. I am a member of the James Scholar Honors Program and have had the opportunity to work closely with my professors and will perform undergraduate research during my senior year. I enjoy being in the College of ACES because there is always a familiar face when you’re walking down the hallway of a building or when you’re in the classroom looking [ … ]
Hello! My name is Kelsey Litchfield and I will be a freshman at the University of Illinois this fall. I am majoring in Agricultural Communications and I chose this major based upon the impact agriculture has had throughout my life so far. I grew up in a small village of about 250 people and attended a high school with four other towns. Being a part of such a small community, I was very involved. In sports, I was a cheerleader and a softball player. Some of the clubs I was in were FFA, 4-H, National Honor Society, Student Council, Mission Team, and band. Being in such remarkable groups has taught me responsibility, leadership skills, and has given me a better work ethic. FFA and 4-H has given me opportunities that influenced my decision to major in Ag Communications, attend University of Illinois, and pursue a career in agriculture. I [ … ]
Hi everyone! This year I will be a freshman at the University of Illinois and I will be majoring in Agricultural Communications. I am from Carthage, IL and I have had an exciting summer. As soon as I graduated from Illini West High School I was off to the Ozarks to attend my cousin’s wedding. Then in a few short weeks I headed to the Illinois FFA State Convention. There I entered my chapter’s scrapbook in the scrapbook contest and did my duties as the Section 11 President. After convention I took my two-year-old horse to the veterinarian over in Missouri and I watched him have surgery! That was quite the experience! I also went to St. George Island in Florida for vacation. We stayed in a house right on the beach. It was amazing!! St. George Island is known for their sea turtles, and we had a sea turtle [ … ]
Hello everyone! My name is Shelby Wendling and I will be an incoming freshman studying Agribusiness, Marketing, and Management. I come from the middle of nowhere also known as Mason, Illinois, where I was born and raised on my family farm. Over the summer I have spent my time working at Fat Dad’s Ice Cream and around the family farm. Last spring I graduated from Dieterich High School where I was always active in extracurricular activities. My favorite memories of high school all come from either being on the sports teams or cheering on my friends from the sidelines. Volleyball and Softball took up a lot of my time and dedication throughout past years, but I also enjoy working outside on the farm, riding my two horses, four-wheeler riding, and spending time with my friends.
Around my hometown the Effingham County Fair is a big attraction for all ages. [ … ]

I grew up on a family farm where my Dad is a grain farmer and we have raised cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, horses, kittens… and a partridge in a pear tree. This is where my love for animals and agriculture began. My latest passion has become my horses. I raise, train and show Paint horses anywhere from local shows, to national competitions through the American Paint Horse Association. Together my horses and I have won multiple state and world championship titles!
In my community I was very involved in my 4-H Club, the Kaneville Classics, serving as both secretary and president. I also enjoyed making projects and showing my pure- bred barn kittens at the county fair. At my local church I enjoy working as Secretary and taking part in youth group, choir and praise band activities.Throughout high school I loved [ … ]
Wow has the summer flown by! I can’t believe that in a few short weeks, I’ll finally be down in Chambana! This past month I had the amazing opportunity to go to mission trip to Alaska with my church where we put on a VBS for the remote village of Nenana and it was a blast! We hiked in Denali, visited Ancorage and Seward, went swimming in the Chena Hot Springs, and walked on the Matanooska Glacier! ..let’s just say it was too much driving. It’s really as beautiful as they say, and along with the scenery, getting to work with the kids was incredible. Of course, the fair kept my July busy as always and I helped put on a Fashion Home Run for our Fashion Review! (Go Cubs Go!!) I can’t wait to open this new chapter of my life living [ … ]
