{"id":1009,"date":"2019-02-25T08:10:45","date_gmt":"2019-02-25T08:10:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/4hhousealumni.com\/blog\/?p=1009"},"modified":"2019-02-25T15:39:08","modified_gmt":"2019-02-25T15:39:08","slug":"meet-your-alum-board-beth-patterson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/4hhousealumni.com\/blog\/2019\/meet-your-alum-board-beth-patterson\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet Your Alum Board &#8211; Beth Patterson"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"813\" src=\"https:\/\/4hhousealumni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Beth.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1010\" srcset=\"https:\/\/4hhousealumni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Beth.png 770w, https:\/\/4hhousealumni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Beth-284x300.png 284w, https:\/\/4hhousealumni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Beth-768x811.png 768w, https:\/\/4hhousealumni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Beth-95x100.png 95w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Greetings.&nbsp; It\u2019s Beth\nPatterson &#8211; your Alumni relations connection on the board. &nbsp;When the House women look to meet, mix, and\nmingle with our illustrious alums for networking opportunities, I\u2019m the one to\ncall!&nbsp; The Homefront also falls under my\nresponsibility.&nbsp; As Joyce Riskedal (web\nsite maven) has previously mentioned, please update your profile on the House\nweb site as we are moving to more digital communication in January of 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A little about me.\u00a0 I hail from Carroll County in Northwestern Illinois and was determined to attend the UI no matter what.\u00a0 My folks were concerned that this small-town girl would get lost in the shuffle of the University and they were right.\u00a0 Thank goodness for learning about 4H House through the connections I made while showing projects at the state fair. \u00a0The night that Natalie Webb Dougherty and Nancy Blankenship Ottosen called me to join 4H House and the pledge class of 1978, I was SO happy!\u00a0 I still get together with these ladies at Homecoming biennially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My passion for fashion (ask Joyce about that) and business\nled me to pursue two degrees.&nbsp; One in Textile\nScience and the other in the Marketing of Apparel.&nbsp; I applied that knowledge as a buyer for\nNeiman Marcus and as a store manager for various retailers including Carson\nPirie Scott and Casual Corner.&nbsp; I\u2019d had\nenough of retail and wanted to work on the other side of the desk in wholesale.&nbsp; My first 4H House roomie\u2019s husband was a big\nshot with Kraft, so I networked my way to an account manager position at Kraft\nFoods.&nbsp; Next stop was as an award-winning\naccount executive with Abbott.&nbsp; Then\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thoughts of working for myself had intrigued me for\nyears.&nbsp; How could I use my knowledge of\ntextiles and business together?&nbsp; Doink! As\nan owner of a successful laundromat of course!&nbsp;\nMy first location was on the campus of Ohio State. &nbsp;I lost the lease to eminent domain and moved 3\nsemis of laundry equipment to IL.&nbsp; Found\none here that was a dump when I bought it.&nbsp;\nIt\u2019s been revived and now produces triple the business!&nbsp; No glamorous fashion here.&nbsp; But it\u2019s lucrative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My hobbies are power walking, sewing, and cheering for the\nPittsburgh Steelers. &nbsp;I also enjoy\nhelping those that want to start a small business develop their business plan\nand get things off the ground like others did for me.
