85th Anniversary Celebration – Information and Registration

It’s Time to Re-unite and Re-ignite with 4-H House Sisters

Please join us for the 85th Anniversary celebration of 4-H House and our sisterhood in the Champaign-Urbana area of Illinois July 12-13, 2019!

Continuing the traditions established at the 50th, 75th and 80th celebrations and adhering to the 4-H motto, we plan to make the best better!

The committee has purposely planned events that leave blocks of free time for you to get together in “big/little” families, pledge classes, decades or others.  You’ll have time to just sit and reminisce, go on a walking tour of campus, visit your special spots, share a meal or a picnic, show your family around campus or any other combination of activities you wish to plan and participate in.

Friday, 7/12

Our kickoff event will be a barbeque at Lake of the Woods Pavilion on Friday night, 5 to 7 pm.  Come early and enjoy the park.  It’s a family friendly event; there are playgrounds and walking paths to explore near the pavilion.  Feel free to bring the entire family if they are accompanying you to the celebration.

The Pledge Class of 1968 is supporting this event as a tribute to those alumnae who worked tirelessly to raise money to build, and then pay off, the mortgage on 805 Ohio.  We’ll have grilled pork chops and hamburgers, sweet corn and all the fixings, including dessert.  After the meal you have time to let the meal settle and continue the tales you are sharing.

Saturday, 7/13

Enjoy a leisurely morning sleeping in or with your alum friends, and at 11 am come on over to the Illini Union Ballroom (guests welcome) for a reception and cash bar hosted by the Pledge Class of 2017. A luncheon banquet, supported by many other classes and alums, follows the reception.

Favorite 4-H House desserts, created by the Pledge Class of 2018, will be served at the house, no walking required! Shuttle service will be running between the Union and the House from 2 to 5 pm. Tours of 801 and 805 will be hosted by the 4-H House Alum Board.  Be sure to check out what’s been completed since the 80th Celebration, inside and out of both properties.  Don’t miss the updated version of our well-loved “Green Door” and see what’s next on the renovation plan.  The evening is yours to enjoy with your friends at the location of your choice!

Additional Tours, Friday 7/12 and Sunday 7/14

The staff at Allerton Gardens has graciously offered to conduct special tours for us of the Private Gardens.  There is no charge for the tours but a minimum $5 donation per person is requested.  Tours will take place Friday, 1 pm and 2:30 pm, and Sunday, 11 am and 1 pm.  The tours are generally 50-70 minutes depending on interests and questions of the group.  https://allerton.illinois.edu/the-gardens/. The lovely Greenhouse Café is available for lunch, snacks and drinks.  https://allerton.illinois.edu/greenhouse-cafe/

You must pre-register using Registration form for these tours and donate at the park.

Get Involved – Volunteer Now

There is still time for you to become involved in this event.  The planning committee would welcome additional volunteers.  We need help setting up events, greeting other alums, and all sorts of assistance.  Silent auction items, baskets, etc. are most welcome, share your talents and treasure with your sisters. Please email sherylsolomonson@hotmail.com or call 309 798-4371 and leave a message. Or follow this link to sign up to volunteer online. http://signup.com/go/YyJPwDM

Don’t forget to send a story from your time in the House. It can be something funny or heartfelt. “What Happened at 805 doesn’t have to stay at 805.” Tell us your story.

Send it to owensma440@gmail.com by May 1st. Time is flying!
