Hi my name is Erin Kettelkamp and I am from Kaneville, IL! I grew up on a family farm where my Dad is a grain farmer and we have raised cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, horses, kittens… and a partridge in a pear tree. This is where my love for animals and agriculture began. My latest passion has become my horses. I raise, train and show Paint horses anywhere from local shows, to national competitions through the American Paint Horse Association. Together my horses and I have won multiple state and world championship titles!
In my community I was very involved in my 4-H Club, the Kaneville Classics, serving as both secretary and president. I also enjoyed making projects and showing my pure- bred barn kittens at the county fair. At my local church I enjoy working as Secretary and taking part in youth group, choir and praise band activities.Throughout high school I loved being in Choir, Madrigals and working backstage for theatre productions. Our upper level chamber choir, the Madrigals, provided me with some of the best friendships and memories in school, from our Madrigal Dinners, to our tour of England and Scotland in 2012.
This summer I have kept myself busy with babysitting, my church secretary duties, and of course, my horses. This spring we had a new foal born, Moe, and watching him grow and working with him has been a blast! Meanwhile, Tank is my show gelding and our highlight this season has been our trip to Fort Worth, Texas for the American Junior Paint Horse World Championship Show. There we competed on the Illinois Paint Youth Team, for team tournament, as well as in some of the regular events. The team earned 4th and Tank and I ended up 9th in the world in our halter class! We hope to compete in Illinois until the end of September and maybe even take Moe out too.
Another highlight during July was my trip into Wisconsin for Country Thunder with some of my close friends. Other than that those main events my summer has consisted of a lot of planning for this fall at U of I!At U of I I will be majoring in animal science and more specifically focusing on Pre- Veterinary coursework. I am super excited to start learning more about what I love, and later I will look into applying at U of I and elsewhere for Vet School. Ultimately I would love to be a large animal vet, most specifically in the equine industry and possibly focus on breeding and genetics.
