Alexis Foster

Hi everyone! My name is Alexis Foster and I will be a junior in the fall majoring in Animal Sciences. This summer I have an internship at Wildlife Prairie Park in Hanna City, IL. If you have not visited the park before, let me give a little explanation of what it is. It is a park that has animals that are or once native to Illinois. At the park I work in the Education Department. Working for the Education Department, I have the opportunity to teach people about all the different animals that call the park their home. I also get the chance to handle and feed the animals that are in the care of the Education Department. This means I take of raptors, skunks, snakes, turtles and frogs. I have been trained to handle some of the raptors that I get to take care of. I get to handle the barn owl, barred owl and peregrine falcon. This job is a lot of fun, not only do I get to work with and handle animals that I never thought I would get the chance to, but I also get to educate people about all the interesting facts about each and every one of the animals.

When I’m not busy working, I like to spend my days off at home hanging out with friends and family and my pets. We just had a new addition to the family, with a new Great Dane puppy who we decided to name Bella. She keeps me, my parents and my two ornery brothers always on our toes. We can never guess what she will get into next. She is quite the handful but we love her any way.

Before I know it, it will be time to move back to my home away from home. I am looking forward to the upcoming semester where I will be back with my sisters ready to make many more memories with them.
